Back in August I wrote about how my iBook headphones port wasn’t working. Turns out, this has happened to other people. A fellow I know purchased an Apple computer some. time ago, and then had the exact same issue, with an Apple computer shipped from the factory set to output to the left channel.

My previous post, on Oregon Trail 5 and the Daleks, was resolved when a friend of mine warezed me the font I needed, then I had to unpack it with stuffit or whatever comes with OS X as opposed to . Good game, learning company.

Actually it isn’t that bad, I enjoyed the 30 minutes or so of Oregon Trail 5. The cartoons are weird in the same way they’re weird in Metroid Zero Mission; changing a game I enjoyed a long time ago with animated cutscenes.

Click it for a larger version if you like, the basic problem there is that the question given to the user for installation location is “Choose domain for installation of software:”

Possible answers in the drop down are:

• On System Disk
• On Appropriate Disk
• System Domain
• Local Domain
• Network Domain
• User Domain

Clearly “On Appropriate Disk” is the most hilarious of the options given. I suppose it is possible that this isn’t really an end-user disc, and is instead for a school or something, where maybe these options make more sense.

Now that the game is installed, it exits out with a friendly message telling me that I need the font “New York 18″.

I google for “Oregon trail” “New York 18″.

Their support site says that you can only get the font from OS 9.

Their support site has no patches for the game.

So now I have to warez a font just to play this game.

Brilliant.
